Our story
It all started with family
My grandad lived alone. He wanted to stay in his home, surrounded by familiar comforts and memories but loneliness was a constant presence. Despite being fiercely independent, he craved the small, everyday moments of connection, someone to share a meal with, to chat with over a cup of tea, to simply be there.
At the same time, my great aunt faced a different challenge. After a fall, she worried about living alone. She wanted to stay in her home but the fear of being on her own in an emergency left her feeling that residential care was her only real option. She didn’t need full-time care, just the peace of mind that someone would be there if she needed help.
This made us ask a simple but pressing question: Why isn’t there a better option for older people who live alone?
Finding a Better Way
We knew there had to be another option, one that allowed people to stay in a home environment, live a normal life and feel safe and supported, without giving up their independence.
In 2018 we started researching, speaking with older people, charities and housing providers. We explored existing options: sheltered housing, residential care, home care visits and found that while they provided support, often at high cost, they lacked one key element: companionship.
At the same time, we met people who, like my grandad and great aunt, felt stuck between two extremes: living alone with the cost of regular companionship and support simply out of reach or moving out of their community to a setting that didn’t truly fit their needs. What if there was a middle ground?
The Lightbulb Moment
Then it hit us, there had to be a better way.
What if you could share a home in a way that felt natural, practical, and sustainable? Instead of struggling alone, whether as a homeowner feeling isolated or a renter looking for a secure, affordable place to live, people could come together, support each other, and create a home that truly works for them.
We came up with a solution, Share Home. A shared living model designed for both homeowners and renters, supported by us every step of the way, both before and during the Share Home, to ensure it delivers exactly what’s needed, a safe, supported and fulfilling home.
This approach provides built-in companionship, support and peace of mind, helping both homeowners and renters to create a home that truly feels like one. By sharing living costs, it also makes additional support more affordable when needed, allowing everyone to live more comfortably, securely, and independently for longer.
Share Home isn’t just about housing, it’s about restoring joy, security, and independence. It’s about having a choice in how you age, about making later life an exciting new chapter, not a lonely one.
That’s why we started.
That’s what we’re building.
